Trends and Insights

Tractor registrations continues to stutter

  • According to data from CEMA, 204,500 tractors were registered across Europe in 2024, 144,400 of which were agricultural tractors. CEMA reveals that European agricultural tractor registrations in 2024 were 8.1% below 2023 levels and at their lowest level since at least 2014. Registrations peaked in 2021 but have contracted annually in the three years through 2024, dipping by 20% in that period. This dip is down to lower agricultural incomes, reduced government subsidies for machinery investment and adverse weather conditions. A weak economic climate, including geopolitical tensions and high interest rates, has also subdued investment in capital machinery.

Agricultural Machinery & Equipment Wholesaling in Europe outlook (2025-2030)

Market size is projected to grow over the next five years.

Agricultural support is falling in Europe, hindering machinery sales

  • Farmers across Europe are highly dependent on subsidies to help stabilise incomes amid market volatility and to fund expenditure on capital machinery. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), which is the EU’s leading government support scheme for the agricultural sector, accounts for 31% of the EU budget between 2021 and 2027 – a substantial drop from the 37.8% it accounted for between 2014 and 2020.
