In 2020, Fresenius launched a nurse residency program to increase the supply of nephrology nurses. In its first year, the program supported 175 nurses, 250 in 2021 and plans to support 500 nurses in 2022. The residency program is the first dialysis residency program for graduate nurses. The program serves as an educational transition for nephrology practices. Fresenius began this program to address the nationwide nursing shortage that has only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
