Packaging Corp Of America - Analyst Insights

New acquisition increases packaging manufacturing capabilities.

The Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) announced the finalized agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Sacramento Container Corporation in August of 2017. The transaction also included 100% of the membership interests of Northern Sheets, LLC and Central California Sheets, LLC, in a $265 million cash deal. PCA also announced that they would be discontinuing production of uncoated freesheet and coated one side grades at their Wallula, Washington mill. In their stead, production will be converted to 100% virgin kraft linerboard in the second quarter of 2018. The Wallula mill can produce 400,000 ton-per-year of the packaging product.
