In 2025, the US population is estimated to reach 338.0 million, increasing by 0.45% from the previous year. Growth remains subdued as birth rates are low while longevity continues rising, leading to an aging population. Medical innovation and heightened health awareness support longer life spans, which have contributed to modest ongoing population gains. The median age in the US also continues to edge upward annually.
Between 2020 and 2025, population growth averaged 0.4% per year, bolstered modestly by immigration and the continued effects of increased life expectancy. The slow expansion reflects persisting demographic headwinds, including declining fertility rates and changes in family formation patterns. Multiple years saw low year-over-year growth, with annual increases of 0.2% and 0.4% in 2021 and 2022, respectively. These patterns underscore both the resilience and the demographic challenges of the US, including the aging population profile and subdued birth rates, which are expected to persist as dominant structural forces through the current period.
In 2026, the US population is projected to rise to 339.5 million, an increase of 0.4%. Growth wil...
